Paul McCartney’s World Premiere Of

‘Working Classical’

Having met Paul the second half of the show could have been an anti-climax, but 'My Love' brought two standing ovations - and a huge smile from Paul. 'Maybe I'm Amazed', ‘Calico Skies', 'Someday' also featured; and 'The Lovely Linda' completed the set.

Everyone was standing as Paul made a brief appearance on stage to thank the audience, "including my Liverpool family who are here with me, and my beautiful baby Linda".

He was swarmed with gifts and flowers and he was determined to hold on to everything. Damian took the opportunity to get some photographs, as did half the people there that night. So much for no cameras! Paul immediately left the building giving the spotlight to his brother Mike, who signed a Shamrock on Pete's programme; but Damian and I had to be contented with just a scribble on ours.

We returned to the side door afterwards and Katie - the woman to whom we had spoken earlier - assured us that Paul had received our gifts and that he had now gone. We could all now go home and sleep soundly.

We had done our job. Paul McCartney knows that Beatles Ireland exists. We had presented him with a piece of Waterford Crystal engraved as follows: 'To Paul McCartney from Beatles Ireland 16-10-99'. He had seen our T-shirts, received Terry's gift of a book and had been handed a letter appealing him to come and play in Ireland. It had been a worthwhile journey, which will be complete when we can give Macca back to the Irish.

***Thanks to Harry and Doris Prytherch for yet another fantastic weekend of fun and hospitality, and to Pat, Damian, Terry and Pete all of whom have their own special memories of this weekend.
